If you're still in school, DON'T do this
this is the one thing I regret the most from high school...
Good morning and Happy Saturday 🙏
Before I get into today’s letter (which you’ll love btw), I just made a new video.
I talk a lot about different psychology hacks to make literally ANYTHING into a habit, and brainwash yourself out of addictions.
If you want to improve yourself FAST, you’ll like that one.
Check it out.
So I just finished high school about a week ago.
Like, forever.
Something that is a real mindf*ck, is that I’m probably never going to see 90% of these people ever again.
Like, there are some individuals who I would speak to, sit next to pretty regularly.
Who I will genuinely never come into contact with ever again.
I don’t really know how to feel about that.
It’s kind of sad in a way, because these are people who I’ve spent years with.
Maybe in some alternate dimension we could have been close.
In a way, I kind of regret not putting myself out there, not getting to know as many people as I possibly could over the last few years.
Because now that opportunity’s gone.
I feel like maybe I missed out on a lot of the “High school experience”, that I’m never going to get another chance at.
So if I had to give some advice to my younger self about to start high school it would probably be this:
Yes - study, workout, do all these brilliant productive things.
But also, just enjoy it a bit more.
You will never have as much free time and as little responsibility as you do when you’re in high school.
And no, I’m not saying to get blackout drunk every weekend or stay up all night playing video games.
But just put yourself out there. Get out of your comfort zone. Do stupid sh*t.
Self-improvement, monk mode, dopamine detox definitely all have their uses.
But if you went out there, into the real world, and got into a relationship with a girl in your class, you would probably learn more about yourself in a month than you would with a year of meditation and breathwork.
If you put yourself out there and got a part-time job as a waiter, you’d probably develop more communication, persuasion and sales skills than you ever would filming NoFap videos in your bedroom.
As a young guy, I think you need to be tactically chaotic.
Just throw yourself into as many opportunities as you can, and see what sticks.
Over the last few months, I’ve tried YouTube, writing, Instagram, freelance web design, copywriting, email marketing, cold outreach.
I’ve played football, done bodybuilding, calisthenics, running, swimming.
I’ve worked 8 hour shifts, mopping the bar at midnight after making drinks all evening.
Everyone tells you to just “pick one thing and stick with it”.
But how do you find that thing?
You need to try ALL the things, so you know which one is best for YOU.
You need to gain real life experience, before you go onto the internet to try and tell people how they should live their lives.
(Just talking to my younger self here.)
This is the difference between knowledge and wisdom.
Knowledge is when you remember the tactic your favourite guru just told you.
Wisdom is when you have experience to back it.
Just some thoughts and reflections I’ve been having,
Hopefully you got some value out of it.
Speak soon,
-Yvan
